Environmental Lawyer


Andrew is a specialist environmental lawyer with many years’ experience. He deals with contentious as well as non-contentious matters and advises a broad range of industries on regulatory and liability issues. He defends prosecutions for breaches of environmental legislation, deals with regulatory appeals and civil litigation and advises on environmental issues relating to projects and corporate and real estate transactions.

Andrew is a qualified Environmental Lawyer joining MBC after spending 16 years as a Partner at Berwin Leighton Paisner and several years more recently as a consultant with Ashurst LLP. He is a graduate of Oxford University and a former Lecturer in Law at Southampton University and Visiting Professor of Law at the University of Georgia (USA).


During Andrew’s career, he has been listed as a leading expert in Environmental Law in the Legal Directories for a number of years.


Andrew is the leading author of Waite & Jewell, Environmental Law in Property Transactions, 4th ed. (2016) and editor of the Environmental Law Handbook, 4th edition (2013). Amongst his many successful cases, he prepared the arguments which secured a derogation from EU legal requirements for a car manufacturer and produced the arguments which proved successful in the only contaminated land case which reached the UK’s highest court.
